During the summer I spend a lot of time outside in the yard. My whole family enjoys music and in conjunction with good weather the sensation of the sound waves is even greater. For a long time I have been using the Squeezebox Radio from Logitech and the sound that this little thing blasts out is outstanding. The Squeezebox line of product has since then been discontinued by Logitech and that killed me inside since I’ve been a Squeezebox fan ever since the first Squeezebox before Logitech even bought the original Slim Devices company back in 2006. I own the original Squeezebox v1, the Squeezebox Touch, and the Squeezebox Radio – all great products.
That being said, I would not necessarily recommend the Radio to just about anyone since they kind of messed up the whole user interface part with a lot of buttons doing what the big wheel could have done, the volume is the small knob (why not the big knob?).
One thing that is a killer feature that really does if for me is the fact that the Radio is prepared for battery power and once I got the battery pack I can play it outside the whole day and then just put it back on the shelf in the kitchen and plug in the power cord to have it on 100% the next day, ready to boom. The wifi connection is always good and as an outdoor wireless music system the Squeezebox Radio is just great.
It’s a shame that Logitech decided to stop making it and replaced it with nothing BUT what I have come to find is that the company Grace did sweep in after Logitech’s retreat from the market. Good job Grace! Their Grace Digital Mondo seems like a 1:1 replacement for the Squeezebox Radio, the only thing I’m not sure of is if the unit is compatible with Spotify (which is my main streaming service). A nice product though, and they seems to have stripped the button clutter that the Radio suffered from = an even nicer aesthetic to it.
